EKS PRODUCTIONS decided to increase its expertise on training films in 1984, and started making training films for companies, according to their specific needs and orders, in 1986. Leading companies like, ARÇELİK (BEKO), AYGAZ, CIBA -GEIGY, THE COCA -COLA COMPANY, PAMUKBANK and TOFAŞ -FIAT were among its clients, but many Turkish companies could not take advantage of the benefits of training with films, that  the US and UK companies enjoyed very widely, since 1930’s, because of the considerably high budgets of these films. For this reason, EKS founded the SINEKOL brand and developed "Training With Films" as a system, and started producing training films on business subjects, with its own finance in 1997. The SYSTEM is also called e-learning in some countries, because the recent developments in the computer world, gave it new aspects. Three SİNEKOL training films have been released in Turkey up to now and the company is in post-production of its first English language training film, for world release.

THE SYSTEM IN ACTION

The SYSTEM is the most suitable answer for the needs of Total Quality Management, in all world markets today, with its interactive aspects which develop the creative insight in corporate training. It also changes the role of the trainer, who becomes a coach, a motivator, a leader who gives direction to the trainees, rather than a teacher who just delivers knowledge in traditional training. Another important advantage of the SYSTEM is that the trainees feel they contribute to the business with a "brain storming" session, rather than one sided sermons in traditional training, which makes many experienced personnel say : "Oh no, not another training again..".

The most important difference of the SYSTEM, from other interactive systems or self-learning or distant learning methods, is the communication language it utilises. We prefer to call it the "Film Language". It is a language, which delivers messages with action or acting, in a story. This is the natural language for all humans. We dream in this language. We think in this language. When we read something or if someone tells us a story, the brain immediately translates what is read or told, to this language. As a result, we remember at least 70 percent of what we watch in this language. As a proof, ask a child what he remembers of the last film he has seen. You will be amazed with the details. 

The SYSTEM works as follows :

First Step - Interactive Group Training

In the SYSTEM, the trainees do not receive the knowledge from the trainer, but directly from the film. The films are analyzed by SINEKOL experts and divided into sections, according to the headings of the subject. A training guide is prepared. For each section, questions are asked to start discussions and adapt the knowledge of the film, to your particular business. We recommend strongly that the trainer should examine the training guide, and make changes in analysis or the questions if necessary. 

To start the training, the trainees watch the whole film first. Then, the section, the trainer wishes to screen first. At the end of the screening, the questions prepared before the training, in the training guide, start the group discussions. If the trainer should think, a piece of information, about the subject is missing in the film, that information can be given at the end of screening of the relevant section. Likewise, if there is some information, the trainer does not agree, that can also be pointed out, before the discussion. During the discussion, the trainer directs the group to come out with creative ideas and solutions. Thus, the trainees will find the rights and wrongs themselves. Therefore they will not forget the points. The trainer should take care, not to make groups too crowded. The sessions will take too long, if many people express their ideas and suggestions. 

After, all the sections of the film are screened, the trainer should prepare a test, to see how much the trained people learned. If possible, the tests should not be prepared as simple questions to answer, but the trainees should be presented with case problems to solve, with the particular training they have had. According to the results of these tests, the training may be repeated, with trainees who are not satisfactory in the tests, as the second step: The test results will also justify your training budgets.

Second Step - Interactive Self Learning

The trainees can do the same thing they have done in group training, by themselves, using the training guide. Everyone can do this, after one group training session. Instead of expressing ideas loudly, in group sessions, trainee, will note his/her ideas and suggestions, to discuss these with the trainer in an informal meeting, after the session. 

The test will be given again. We suggest the case problems should be changed, if the trainee is doing the same test for the second time. 

Self-learning aspect in the SYSTEM, gives the trainees, the opportunity to repeat the training as many times as they like, whenever they like. The training will be done in their free time, so there will be no cost. The trainees will be motivated, seeing their own creativity. The personal attention they get from the trainer during the informal meetings, after sessions, will also motivate the trainees. The interviews will also be an excellent opportunity for the trainer to get to know the personnel’s abilities, values, etc., in detail. 

Self-learning, where the trainee is directed personally by the trainer, is a very useful method. Among many benefits, the most important are as follows :

There is a considerable amount of working time saved, causing considerable economic gains. The company avoids unnecessary training an individual may not need.
The trainer and the company gets to know the abilities and fall backs of an employee closely. Thus the opportunity to strengthen weaknesses individually is made possible.
The one to one conduct between the trainer and the personnel in self-learning, boosts up motivation and self-confidence among staff.

Distant Learning

The SYSTEM is ideal for companies with many branches, area managements, sales points etc., spread all over the country. It gives the opportunity to train personnel working in these distant points from the head office. First, trainers can be chosen from distant points and they are given group training at the head office. These people will then go to their areas and start group training in sessions. After the first Group Training session, Self-learning process can start. The trainer at the head office, can have one to one telephone interviews with individuals and get them to take the test by fax or e-mail.  The trainer may also go to the distant points one by one, to implicate the group-training sessions himself, for the first time.  The self-learning process will start, as the second step.

This drama film tells the funny, but highly educating story of EROL, who enrolls in a sales course, to be an excellent salesman. Trainees will learn the basic steps of sales with EROL, which will be significant in all industries and trades.

This film is prepared in partnership with KalDer, the Turkish Quality Association. Prof. Dr. Gönül Yenersoy Erdoğan and KalDer Education Committee were the consultants. Drama sketches in the film make many difficult to understand concepts, like "Inner Customers", to be easily conceived. Leaders of some of the most successful companies in Total Quality Management, in Turkey, also share their experiences and knowledge in the film,
with the viewers.
